| The Arado Ar 234 V 21 “Versuchsflügel IV” was a variant of the Ar 234 V16 prototype. The revolutionary crescent wing planform designed by Arado´s chief aerodynamicist Rüdiger Kosin was going to be used in this prototype as well; this time it would be powered by four BMW 003 A-1 engines, mounted in a pair of twin-engine nacelles under each wing, instead the single jet projected for its predecessor. The Ar 234 V-21 prototype, Wr. Nr. 130061, coded PI+WZ (or RK+EK for some authors) was chosen for being fitted with this new configuration. The 130061 flown on November 24, 1944 with the standard production wing and the paired BMW power plant. As many other German projects, the Versuchsflügel IV never left the drawing boards due the end of the WWII. |
